Only about 1% of the world's water is accessible for direct human use - including the water we see in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs as well as underground sources. Only this 1% is regularly renewed by rain and snowfall and is available to us on a sustainable basis to meet all our needs for drinking, sanitation, irrigation, and indusrial use.
