The typical home's hot water heater uses about 11.1 barrels of oil per year. If a solar thermal system were installed to supply 70% of that home's water, that system would save 7.7 barrels per year, enough to avoid the production of 3.5 tons of CO2.

Alteris Renewables recently installed CT's largest wind turbine in New Haven. The turbine produces 164,770 kWh and powers one-third of a commercial print operation including an enormous Heidelberg press. It is projected to save the company $35,000 per year in electricity costs and pay for itself within 8 years.

Deloitte's "'top/down bottom/up' approach to sustainability recognized two fundamental truths: first, for environmental considerations to be sustainable they must be integrated into everyday processes and behaviors; and second, that success depends on our people deciding for themselves that they want to fully invest their energy and leadership in supporting sustainability."
